Ancient prophecies foretold a time when Destineers would save the worlds. Yes, worlds with an “s”. There are a lot of them out there; you just have to know how to find them. We are the Destineers. At least, that's what we've been told. My name is Kylie O’Connor; I go to Greenbrier Academy. Recently we got a new headmaster named Wiliam Derrnz and suddenly life got very interesting. He brought some new professors and a whole new curriculum with him. I'm not so sure the school board knows about these changes...let's just say school is a LOT more fun since they arrived. We've been asked to participate in a “directed study” program but we seem to be the only ones in it. There’s Ryan – he’s 16 and the leader of the group; Sean, his roommate (also 16) who has a great sense of humor (but he loves to play practical jokes so watch out!), and Ryan’s little brother Brady (he’s 9). Brady is awesome. He has this amazing energy and really has a knack with languages. Me? I’m Kylie; I’m 15 and the writer of our group. We’re not exactly sure what a “directed study” curriculum is all about, but the classes are amazing! Like interactive history - there's a machine called an incarnation chamber that lets us travel to any realm at any time in history! Did I mention the cool dragon hatchling we adopted on one of our quests? The beings described in the Journal are reported to have lived in our world and have deep roots in Mythology and Legends. The last appearances (in our world) for most of these beings date back to the time when the “Old Ways” were predominant in human culture. This book is an encyclopedic “field guide” to the Nations of Fantasy based on class-room lessons and, ummm… impressions from personal experience and encounters of the fantastical kind. It's arranged alphabetically for easier reference.
